August 2009 - Sridevi Durga, MD has had one of her many research projects "The Effect of Preoperative Statin Therapy on Perioperative Complications in Patients Undergoing Non-cardiovascular Surgery" approved for oral research competition by ACCMI, Grand Rapids.


Congratulations to Tahmeed Contractor, one of our second year residents, who has had his abstract" Should Defibrillation Threshold be Tested in Patients With Cardiac Resynchrozation Therapy Defibrillation Implantation" selected for the American Cardiology 2010 scientific session. The presentation is based on his work at UCLA during an elective.

Santhosshi Narayanan, MD won 1st Place for oral case presentation at the regional American College of Physicians meeting and will go to nationals.

Dr. Abhijeet Dhoble published an article in the American Journal of Cardiology "Relation of Porphyria to Atrial Fibrillation". His research was thanks to a resident research grant from GMEI, Inc.

Dr. Nitesh Gadeela's research abstract "Can Recurrence of Inappropriate ICD Therapy be prevented?" has been accepted fro presentation at European Cardiac Arrhythmia Society 2008 (ECAS 2008) Meeting in Marseille, France and will later be published in the Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology (JICE) .

Abhijeet Dhoble, MD co-authored an abstract titled "Use of Beta Blockers, Lipid Lowering agents, and Angiotensin Converting Enzyme - Inhibitors Before Recurrent Acute Myocardial Infarction" that has been accepted for presentation at the National SGIM Meeting in Philadelphia.

Nitesh Gadeela, MD presented his abstract " Utility of Isoproterenol During Catheter Abliation of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation" at the November 2007 American Heart Association meeting in Orlando, Florida with subsequent publication in the supplement of the circulation.

October 2007 - Dr. Shalabh Chandra has been selected for induction into Alpha Omega Alpha, an international medical honor society, as a resident member. this is a prestigious and competitive honor. Congratulations!
Dr. Ashwani Gupta presented his poster a the National Kidney Foundations Spring 2007 Clinical Meeting. The abstract is the application of time series models of biological systems. There are very few papers in medicine using time series analysis. It was also published in the April issue of the American Journal of Kidney Disease (AJKD).

At the Chest 2006 meeting, PGY3 resident Amit Gupta presented important retrospective data regarding use of nebulizers and asthma-related deaths. According a Medscape quote from Peter R. Smith, MD, chief of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, New York: "This is clearly one of the most original findings that I've heard at this meeting for pulmonologists in a tertiary care setting, where we are still looking for answers." The results of Amit’s work have been widely featured on Medscape, MedlinePlus, Yahoo news, and Forbes.
In honor of his outstanding oral case presentation at the 2006 ACP Michigan Chapter meeting, Amarbir Mattewal (PGY3) has been selected by the American College of Physicians Michigan Chapter to attend the national 2007 ACP meeting in San Diego with all expenses paid.

Shalabh Chandra, MD was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2006 Johns Hopkins General Internal Medicine Housestaff Research Awards competition, for his submission titled Role of Pre-operative Stress Myocardial Perfusion Scan in Cancer Patients Undergoing Non-Cardiac Surgery and their Outcomes.

  • Dr. Roshan Patel earned 1st prize for his research poster on "Aspirin Significantly Reduces Excimer Laser Induced Platelet Aggregation".
  • Dr. Sachin Gupta earned 1st prize for his clinical case poster, "A Not so Unusual Cause of Near Fatal Lactic Acidosis in the Intensive Care Unit."
  • Dr. Shalabh Chandra received "Best Case Study Poster".
  • Dr. Oluchi Opara presented a case report, "an unusual case of HAART related lipodystrophy presenting as bladder neck abstruction ."
  • Dr. Oluchi Opara presented a case report, "California group Viruses presenting as peripheral neuropathy in an adult." Dr. Oluchi also presented these two case studies at the ACP Associates meeting in May of 2006.

The Paget’s Disease Foundation International Symposium was held in Fort Lauderdale, FL in January 2006.

  • Dr. Mohammad Pervaiz gave an oral presentation entitled Osteoporosis: A Potential Mimicker of Paget’s Disease. He received many complimentary comments after his presentation and had the opportunity to interact with international experts.

The 2005 Spring ACP Associates Meeting was held on May 6, 2005 in Detroit, Michigan.

The 2004 Spring ACP/ASIM Michigan Chapter Scientific Meeting was held May 7, 2004 at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan. Two of our senior residents received awards.

Dr. Dexter Estrada received third place for his oral presentation entitled "Radiometric Quantitation of PAIgG Stratifies Treatment Responce In ITP Patients.". Dr. Estrada completed the project with John M. Davis and Dr. Schwartz.

Dr. Mini Kamboj received third place for one of her two posters, which were entitled "Is the epidemiology of non-HIV brain abscesses changing: A five-year review from a community hospital" and "Staphylococcus aureus resistant to macrolides: Should Clindamycin be used?" Both efforts were completed under the supervision of Dr. Kak, and with Dr. Khalife for the second.
