Ingham
Regional Medical Center (IRMC) has 483 acute care beds and
49 sub acute-care beds spread between two campuses located
in the southern residential district of Lansing. IRMC is a
teaching hospital affiliated with the College of Human Medicine
and the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State
University. IRMC offers specialized services in Cardiology,
Pulmonary Medicine, Orthopedics, and Oncology. Nearly 4,000
cardiac diagnostic and treatment procedures are performed
yearly, including percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty,
directional coronary atherectomy, and electro physiology studies.
Approximately 900 open-heart operations are performed at IRMC
yearly. Pulmonary facilities include the Lung Institute for
the treatment of a variety of diseases including tuberculosis
and cystic fibrosis, and the Sleep Disorders Program. The
hospital's Arthroscopic Surgery Center was the world's first.
Physicians from around the globe come to IRMC to observe and
learn the latest techniques in diagnosis and treatment of
various joint disorders.
In
addition to its affiliation with Michigan State University,
IRMC also sponsors graduate medical education programs in
Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine (Osteopathic), General
Surgery, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine (Osteopathic), Cardiology
Fellowship (Osteopathic), Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic
Surgery Fellowship, and a Cardiovascular Anesthesia Residency.
While at IRMC, Internal Medicine residents rotate on general
medicine rotations, emergency medicine, pulmonary medicine,
